Updated - July 27, 2024 - added tolerance test and more tolerant sliding coversAfter receiving a number of complaints about the lid not snapping to the cover and knowing that each individual printer may not be configured to print holes and post as accurately as the model was designed for originally, I've added two more variations of the sliding cover and a hole/post tester. Updated - July 7, 2024 - added Narrow Can LidWhether you are out fishing or partying in the back yard, keep stuff out of your beverage can with this snap-on lid. Updated - July 6, 2024Redesigned version 2 released after extensive testing with friends. Version 2 Features/ImprovementsEnhanced for printability - overhanging fillets changed to chamfersMouth Opening widened from 90 degrees to 120 degreesSlot updated and resizedFont changed for textSnap-on can lid with sliding coverDesigned to snap onto a standard 12oz beverage can, this lid will keep bugs and other things out of your beer or soda when you are not drinking it. Simply slide the cover over the opening in the can when you are not drinking your beverage. The lid has a snug fit so it will not accidentally rotate on you while you are drinking like some other can lids I've tried. Identify your drink by using your slicer to engrave your name (or ask in the comments and I'll try to model it on an arc for you). Another option is to have a bunch of lids in different colors for the party. Like you needed a reason to buy another spool of filament :-) Custome Names Version 2 available:Alex, Alicia, Chad, Chris, Geoff, Gibson, Jon, Niklas & TomPut your name in a comment if you want me to create a custom lid for you. Custom Names Version 1Alicia, Brenda, Chris, David & Eliot lids in the Custom Names on Lids folder Printing InstructionsIf unsure or how accurately your printer prints posts and holes, print the post-hole tester which should be under 20 minutes. Then measure each post and hole with calipers. If the post size is more than 0.1 mm bigger than the number between the post and the hole, you will want to use one of the tolerant sliding covers. Same thing if the holes are smaller by more than 0.1mm. The most important one to check is the 5.0mm post as the hole in the center is 5.0mm and the posts on the covers are 4.9mm, 4.8mm (more tolerant), 4.6 (most tolerant).Print in PLA or PETG (PLA is easier, though PETG will be more heat resistant out in the sun or in your car and is more flexible)Print the lid with the large flat surface down and the sliding cover with the posts sticking up so that No Supports are needed.I recommend a layer height of 0.2mm (with a 0.4mm nozzle)If printing text with multiple colors, add a color change at 0.6mm (3rd layer) to your print as the text is engraved 0.4mm.You can print the sliding cover and the can lid at the same time or separately if you want to mix and match colors.I recommend about 15-20% gyroid infill for strength, though most of the print will be walls and solid layers.Assembly InstructionsAfter printing, put the rounded post through the curved grove opposite the openingLine up the center postApply firm pressure to snap it together (The snap fit should allow easy sliding of the cover and stay together)Usage InstructionsOpen your canSnap the can lid onto the top of your canIt will take a little force to get the 3 hooks over the rim of the canRotate the can lid so that the opening in the lid is over top of the opening in the canSlide the cover out of the way to drink and back after you are doneSip and enjoy!
